Two transport planes shot down at cruising altitude in that region since last week, indicating that someone was using high-altitude anti-aircraft weaponry. Airspace closed to civilian flights by the Ukrainian civil aviation authorities. The warnings were there: I don't know why anyone thought that it was a good idea to fly there.
