I have a 87 560SEL with 156k on it. There is a rumble noise coming from the smog pump. When I push down on the air cleaner it gets worse and when I lift up the air cleaner it goes away. I traced the hoses to the smog pump. You can hear the noise coming from the smog pump.

Right now I have it shimmed so it's quiet. Any ideas?
