I would like to install windshield mounted Cobra and Garmin units. Both of which can easily be powered via a cigarette lighter. I however, find the wiring from a cigarette lighter to a device to be less than appealing.

My solution, in theory, was to run wires through the defroster unit into the glove box and then find a power source.

I can't even figure out how to get the glove box out? Sure I can see and remove the five "plugs" but that does not mean the glove box is going to budge!

Any other suggestions on how to get power to these units would be appreciated.


I had the rear flex disc replaced two new tires (Michelins) installed and all high speed balanced yesterday ... the smoothest ride she has ever given me. Next week the fuel filter and the valve cover gasket are going to be replaced. Then hopefully I can start working on the 85 300SD.


P.S. I am still searching for a Palomino colored third brake light than I will begin to work on why I have no cruise control. I am told one reason I may not have cruise control is that the units are also tied in with the vehicle's lighting system.
