There is no need to change the oil prematurely. Change it according to the manufacturer's schedule, but not longer. Additives in the oil are made to last a certain duration (hours of use) which is approximated by experimentation in the lab.

The result of this is that you may be really cheating yourself on the oil you buy.

Never overuse oil, but changing oil too often is wasteful.

Case in point: I bought a military diesel truck at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton. They shipped it to Michigan. Before departure theu changed ALL the fluids everywhere. Then they set off on the trip.

I go to the yard to pick up the vehicle. Delays. Why? " We couldn't find any paperwork on maintenance so we changed every fluid in the vehicle."

I found the paperwork later under the seat!

Complete fluid change after 500 miles, lol!
