Typically they won't reset by pulling a battery cable, no. May depend on the year and the reason the fault was set to begin with. Some codes, if the reason for the fault is fixed, will just allow the light to go off after enough time or starts has past.
What year/model is it, and do you know the reason for the light to be on?
