They need to be working on just Hydrogen ... compressed...
instead of a fuel cell.....
But either way... since you can convert water to hydrogen and water with very low voltage DC voltage.... in the future having ' filling stations ' out there will be much less of a problem... you use wind and solar to make it all the time those work....and fill up at your house....
When hydrogen becomes pretty much free.... you will not have to be concerned with lightweight vehicles.... you can make cars large enough to carry strong compressed hydrogen tanks... which can be used in regular internal combustion engines... like propane can be now... just adjust the air to fuel ratio.....
At that point in time springs on vehicles will be used in the stretch mode... as compared to compressing.... to give really nice progressive cushioning... like some motorcycles have in the past.... BMW for one.... or ' springer' front ends on Harley's....
