Reverse Lights (Not Working) 1998 ML320

reverse lights have a short ?!?

When you place the car in reverse, the lights do not come on. With the car in reverse, you can jiggle the gear shifter left to right and they come on. I have been reading all over and says to replace reverse light switch on other mercedes models. I look up parts for 98 ML320 and this part does not exist.

My question, is this a contact that I can clean, it might be dirty? or do you think it's warn out? 17 years is a long time.

Also curious if any links, to where switch is located? Maybe you tube?
