And... Another let down. I'm getting tired of these headlines touting a "real working hoverboard", only to then go on to describe just another glorified lab experiment. We've all known for decades now that maglev technology was functional, it's just that it requires a dedicated surface to operate over. So far, this has only been (arguably) feasible for trains. All Lexus has done here is built a skatepark shaped maglev surface. They moved the lab outside, and made it look like something people are used to seeing.

The board is nifty, but what everyone wants when they think hoverboard is something that works anywhere, can be used to travel from place to place. And when these articles are written, that's what they think they are going to get. No one reads enough to get into the details, or perhaps they're just to stupid to grasp them, but either way, the end result is that we get a nifty PR stunt, and a decade of idiots running around spouting off about how "They totally have working hoverboards, but the lawyers/oil companies/government won't let us have them"

Ugh.
