RIP Dan Slayden

While in the Army, I had the pleasure of serving with Dan Slayden in 1969 & 1970. He had previously served in the 11th. Air Assault when it was made into the 1st Cav & sent to Vietnam in 1965 as part of LBJ's 1965 troop build up. He was in the 12th. Regiment that was on the other side of the hill from the 7th. when they were deployed as portrayed in the Mel Gibson movie "We were Soldiers."

Danny received two purple hearts and other commendations for actions all before his 18th. Birthday. In the course of that time, he was drenched with agent orange twice. About three years ago, Cancer was discovered all over his body. He died yesterday morning at home on hospice. He lived 2 years and 13 days past the date that the doctors told him he would die, proving that he was as much of a fighter off the battlefield as on.

Rest in Peace my friend.
