I am not sure why you think it might go out relatively soon....but I would not be driving it myself or let anyone else drive it until that is fixed....
This ' maintaining proper distance'.... you can not do that with idiots operating the other vehicles on the road...
It's not a matter of "fixing" something....it works perfectly fine, best braking MB I've ever driven. It may go out tomorrow....it may last another ten years. But I can't see dropping $1500 simply as preventive maintenance.

SBC is basically brake by wire.
