Not rigorously. I suggest you perform a blind test having an assistant randomly unbolt both engine shocks and you record your feeling of the shut-down transient on a severity scale. You must do it ~100 times to get valid statistics. Then compare the with and without to see if a statistical correlation. Shouldn't take more that 2 man-weeks labor. Please report back. People used to try calling audiophiles on their claim perceptions of different speaker and cables, by blind tests, but most wouldn't step up to show their superior perceptions.

I have two W123 300D's and they have had failed engine shocks or maybe a missing one at different times. Can't say I noticed.
