You could always take the head to a machine shop and have them give it a quick look to see if it is worth saving.

Right on,I hope the heads not too far gone everytime I look at the price of these engines it makes me a little queezy lol.. I saw where one online vendor wanted $9000 for a rebuilt OM602!
If that's not a shot in the pants I don't know what is . I found a few vendors on car-part.com in the $1200-1600 range but even then I can exceed the cars value rather quickly, so as always I've got my fingers crossed.
