My transmission has a plug up near the bell housing part where his had something that went in there on passenger side. Really not sure from talking to him or his mechanic buddy what exactly it was. I am more familiar with the later year models than the first 123s and even less familiar with their transmissions.

First off, he is currently using his old mechanical overdrive controller (not sure if that is proper) instead of the vacuum operated one from mine. when he tried to use the vacuum one, he said it just immediately shifted all the way up (not sure if he said if it made it into OD).

With the mechanical switch, he has tuned it so it shifts fairly reasonably (but still a little high and of course not sensitive to throttle position) but won't reach overdrive.

I think the solution to take the entire vacuum and throttle actuated mechanism off my engine and mate it to his car? if so, the learning curve is currently so high on that I need some guidance.
1) None of the transmissions used in those years had overdrive (OD). They are four-speed trans which, in many models, start in 2nd.

2) To proceed, all of the number string on the right side pan rail of both of the transmissions will help a great deal.
