The side window glass 77 - 79 ( as Rick mentioned 09-79) is a thicker glass than
80 - 85 which was made a bit thinner.
Also as I understand it, the curvature is different, and the window channel is a different part #.

If you look in the vendor catalogs for the W123 side window glass, they show only one part #.

I personally have not measured the glass. My buddy had his side window broken in his 79. I told him to grab one from PNP.
He did some researching, called Roy (Whunter) and Roy told him of the differences.

MB probably went to thinner glass to lighten up the cars where they could, to appease the EPA or what ever Govt. agency, in a effort for better mileage.
Just a guess on my part,
