Didn't see it mentioned but you should connect the positive lead first and then the negative lead. This way any arcing and associated voltage spikes will be dissipated into the ground plane. I'm pretty sure doing the opposite is why I see so many 129 soft top modules fried every spring in cars that are otherwise OK.
