You probably used a dull, low quality drill bit. I had no trouble drilling mine out.

What's wrong with buying a new after market tumbler that is keyed differently than the door key? They are $15 to $20 and works fine. Hide the ign key in the car so you don't have to carry 2 keys if that is a concern. Not good to have a lot of weight on the key in the tumbler bouncing around scratching everything around it.
