Bose Sound System Transplant: W140, 202, 210 into W123, W124 etc.

I want to put either an early W140 Bose sound system, or a later W202/W210 Bose system into my 300D and 300CE, since they both have the pathetic base stereos. I'm also thinking about doing the later W140 stereo, or possibly one from a W202 or W210 based on design differences and what I can find at the yards in acceptable condition. I know the Bose Beta system is the best one, (from the W140 with 11 speakers) but those are known to be a bit problematic and are now suffering age related issues. So a more modern system from a C or E class might be my best bet. Has anyone done this? If not it looks like I'm going to be pioneering this worthwhile upgrade.

So far it looks like I'll need the head unit, tuner box, amplifier, all speakers w/ housings and associated wiring. A big job to be sure, but one I'm willing to take on.

Any thoughts? Has anyone done this?
