Yup, agree correct bracketing is crucial.

I think all the clips were in place and not broken but may not have been pushed home to get that 'click'.

This was a restoration project which from my overall assessment has been neglected over the years. The good news most of the major stuff is done leaving important but fiddly bits such as this.
