thanks for the replies everyone. Today the noise was completely gone! And the fan is blowing out a pretty good mass of air. Maybe this is a sign its about to completely break. Its been my experience that when ever something which is broken suddenly fixes itself, it then really breaks soon after. Maybe its just me??
I guess I will wait till it dies to pull everything apart.
