5 years, that's not much, how many miles? I'm pretty sure mine had still the original with 85K miles. I would check all the grounds as well.
The alternator is on the passenger side of the engine and the voltage regulator is on the back of the alternator, two screws hold it in place. Just follow the belt to find the alternator.
