w210 wagon hatch latch mechanisam?

Just bought another w210 wagon. Found that the rear hatch does not lock - lock the doors and you can open the hatch setting off the alarm.

Ok removed the rear trim from the hatch - for reference there are 4 plastic 2 piece rivets that need to be removed (2 per side), the bumpers that actuate the rear modesty panel release do NOT need to be removed, and the interior latch needs to be removed - one tiny philips screw removes the trim panel, then you can remove the two screws that hold the strap in place then the interior panel can be popped off.

Now the interior release can be removed via 1 philips screw under the handle. The lower hard plastic does not need to be removed.

Viewing what goes on in the mechanism, it will lock and unlock if I assist their movement, sprayed a bit of penetrating lube on the sliders and rotary pivot piece (lock) but still no great joy, in fact now when trying to lock, it moves a bit then starts to hiss like a leak. Anyway - any advise on the proper way to remove this assembly? Assume the vacuum fittings just pull out? Never serviced any of the vacuum system in the past.
Thanks
Paul

And this picture shows more of the area of interest - I believe the cylinder is the external lock/key cylinder which hooks into the mechanism - that is what I used to help the actuator from inside the car.
