Well it is quite obvious what I would buy for myself, but being most women tend to hate diesels and like Capt Kirk stated these cars take a little more awareness of things, it would probably be better to buy the jap car.
Oh and one other thing, I feel your pain on the 94 Grand Prix I sold my 91 Grand Prix in August 2002 for something easier to work on.
