The seat bolsters provide the tension that keeps the seatback in place.

So you need to relieve the load by simultaneously pressing down on the bolster near the side that you are removing the seatback from the channel.

Just remove one side only, as you can easily access whatever you need by swinging it outward. Otherwise you have to get both channels back into place (not fun)
