A common failure with the CDI is the water pump. It is a fairly easy job, so most anyone with some skills can do it. The belt, tensioner, and idler pulleys should be replaced as well. All the parts are a little over $200, and the job takes about an hour.

The CDI has the 722.6 transmission, and is much more DIY friendly than the '07 and newer 722.9. Basic maintenance and repairs are totally DIY on these cars. Although having a Star Diagnostic tool would be nice, the iCarsoft MB II has been an invaluable tool for me. With the exception of bleeding the SBC brakes (had an independent Euro shop do it after installing the rebuilt SBC unit), the MB II has done everything I have needed it to do on all three W211's that I have owned......Rich
