Reviving an ancient thread.

I just fixed the day/night on my 1980 450sl mirror. From what I could figure out, the plastic day/night tab rides in a notch in a piece of plastic that is the same piece of plastic that forms the socket holding the ball. I pulled the ball & socket "out" of the mirror as far as I dared, held the tab towards the socket, then with a kitchen knife poking into the mirror housing through the space by the tab, pushed the socket plastic further back and popped the tab onto it. Hard to describe. Should have taken pics. At least everyone knows its possible to fix.
