The bearing in your top pic is the wrong part. On our M103 5 speed car with a single mass flywheel I've been pushing them past flush but not all the way using a clutch alignment tool to get an idea of a good depth. It should support the input shaft of the trans. We've been through a couple engines unfortunately so I am too familiar with our setup and I end up about 1/4" in from the top of the crank every time. It shouldn't have any axial loading and ours does not have a snap ring and I am not worried about that.
