Since yours is a Gen II, yes it will require a Gen II V8 diff, or a complete rear subframe w/diff from a Gen I. The mounting of the diff to the subframe is different for Gen I & Gen II.
Short of a boosted engine, the 185mm diff is likely sufficient, and offers a wider selection of ratios.
