Personally wouldn't bother with the veg oil side of things, there's nothing in at all to purge build up or loosen rings - that said, the diesel purge idea is something of interest, as someone who has been skeptical for many years I have decided to give it a go.

Diesel, we are in the same boat with potentially similar pump issues, mine may have been standing with water ingress into fuel system - next year will pull the pump replacing all of the seals whist inspecting internal parts for corrosion/damage.

Still have a slight murmur at idle but nothing major, managed to get a litre of Liqui Moly for around $15 delivered - i figure its worth a shot, will report back results.
