Those letters have been so overused that its hard to figure out what they mean anymore.

OE means Original Equipment. This can only be one thing - a genuine Mercedes-Benz part in the blue box with the star on it.

OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer - made by a company that is contracted to supply the specified part to Mercedes-Benz, but distributed outside of M-B channels. Remember, just because a particular company supplies parts to Mercedes-Benz, doesn't mean that ALL of their parts are OEM. Oil filters from Bosch come to mind.

Advice from people in the know on this board is to stick with the three real OEM filter suppliers, which are listed in the response above. Anything else is false economy.
