algae, Draining the tank?

I am starting the resurection of a diesel that sat awhile.

Ir runs but bogs down which I understand could be algae clogging things or air is getting into the line.

Starting with potential algae.

I just started draining the tank by unscrewing the tank drain bolt. The diesel fuel looks gold and fine. (I had refilled the tank before parking it in Dec.). My question is iffffff there was any algae problems in the tank would I have seen this upon the first few seconds of draining the fuel?
