In my experiene, bass response is easily fixed in these cars by making use of the only big hole which passes through to the trunk... the 1st aid kit.

You can situate a bass box in the trunk, then, carefully, you can remove the 1st aid kit and modify it by cutting the bottom out - thereby creating a port into the cabin! I have a 2 x 150W 10" bass box and it works fine, just enough without being a crazy bass-head....
