Eric, it's not really that hard to do from the back. I had mine out 3 times over the weekend for various pueposes.
I did remove the speedometer pointer, because I needed to take it apart to fix the broken odometer. I'm happy to report that the odometer is working now, but I haven't checked the speedo calibration yet. Hopefully, that will happen this week.
Once you get it out, I would recommend changing the light bulbs while you're there. After doing all my other in-dash work, I found Euro-spec bulbs at Autozone yesterday. They're in a green package at the bottom of the display. So mine will be coming out again to do the bulbs.
