Try this first, remove both intake and exhaust cams, reset crank to top dead center ot mark , reinstall cams to correct position , you align 3mm guide holes at back of sprockets, or small hole just above parting lines at both int and exh cams of head, at what position did you removed head?, cylinder 1 lobes on cams point up" rabbit ears" ,as long as you didn't try to start it your ok if you did remove cams and perform leakdown test you may not have bent the valves
