1976 Mercedes 240D M117 5.5 liter | Retro Rides
The reason why this project appeals to me is that the motor in question and any Mercedes parts I would need for this swap are entirely free. Things like the Painless wiring harness, Megasquirt, modifications to the intake manifold, driveshaft, bell housing, and purchase of a Getrag 265 have already been factored in. I know it will be an enormous labor of love and an considerable time investment, but it will be worth it to me.
FWIW, my stepbrother fit a LS1 into his 1965 Volvo 122S which was no easy feat; it required complete reworking of the firewall, floor, transmission tunnel, steering gear, rear axle, and suspension components. I think I can find a way to make a M117 fit in a W114, especially using the thread linked above as a reference.
I plan on outlining my entire plan in a dedicated build thread in the coming weeks, as there are several other exciting aspects that I have not mentioned here.
