My achilles heel when it comes to books are they MUST BE well written. So I choose older books (In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, Moby Dick, 20,000 leagues under the sea, and my favorite book of all time: The Columbia History of the World (1972) published by Harper Row... to name a few)

What pisses me off to no end is how easy it is for anyone to publish a book these days. A few years ago I ordered a paperback on Amazon titled GOING HOME by A. American (a survivalist series author) and was astounded by the misspelled words. I couldn't finish it. I have seen other books like that, and will never again read a non-publishing house book. (never say never, I know!)

Is it just me, or is the era of GREAT AUTHORS coming to an end? (realizing John Grisham and Stephen King are still among the living)
