Have not heard about the S400 CDI, but I did hear from the sales guy at the local dealership that MB has started testing to meet all 50 states' emissions requirements and if the E320 CDI passes these tests it will be sold across the country. Previously they were only going to certify the car for 46 or 47 states.

Jim Anderson,

You can stop waiting, it is a Common rail, Direct injection, Intercooled turbocharger set up.

edge,

The ML is available in the 270 CDI and 400 CDI variants at present, so the AWD system integration efforts required has been done on those. There are no 4-Matic E Class (W211) models available yet, and there are no Diesel S Class 4-Matic models available either (although you can get an "S" in the 350, 430 and 500 flavors with 4-Matic in the Fatherland). So, if the Diesels sell, they may spawn other models, like 4-Matic versions and AMG versions over here. I heard rumors that AMG is working the 3.2 and 4.0 CDI engines over for the German and other markets. They already did the 2.7 and turned it into a 3.0 AMG that is available in the 'C" over there.

Great news, hope they sell! Jim
