The coolant level sensor is known to cause problems like this as it ages.

This is primarily due to corrosion at the terminal prongs.

When it's dim like that, a thorough terminal cleaning should fix the problem.

Try some electrical contact cleaner and a stiff brush. Should solve your problem.
