Well, no one can steal it (easily) if it doesn't start!

I vote you can drive it home with the jumper on.
Just remember to pull the jumper whenever motor is not running.
You are emulating the normal operation closely, so no big deal.
Actually, you are the relay. Sounds like a Zen thing.
