My wife and I got our 82 300D Turbo for our son who just turned 15 this past March and is driving this to learn with on his permit. From what I have read on here the SD would be a larger more solid ride than the regular turbo diesel but it has turbo also. As for the size our son likes the 300D since it is smaller and easier for him to park, manuever, back-up, ect... . IMO either one would be a perfect choice for your daughter.
