SQUEEK/CREAK on driver front of my 190

(Yes, I searched and read the threads first)

1991 190E 2.6 ~ 150k miles

This past winter, the front left (near the wheel) really started creaking (like the proverbial hinge on the coffin -- that is exactly what it sounds like). I don't know if it does it at higher speeds, but I notice it especially at very low speeds as I turn the steering wheel or go over a small bump.

From what I have read, it appears to either be the ball joints, tie rods, or one of the bushings (can't recall the part right now).

I am not going to tackle this myself. What do you suspect it is and what would be an approximate repair cost?

Finally, if the ball joints -- How does one determine if the entire control arm should be replaced or just the ball joints?
