The plastic assembly is held by 3 tabs. One on the left side and two on the rear.
Get your fingers down there and gently pry the tabs out while you are lifting the assembly.
Now you can get an open-end wrench (15 mm i think) down there and release the locking nut and unscrew the shifter lever.
Never criticize someone until you've walked a mile in his shoes. That way, when you do, you're a mile away -and you have his shoes!
