The automatic transmission on my 1972 220D is going out. It slips alot between shifts. A friend has given me a 4 speed manual transmission out of a 240d from the mid seventies (i think). He says that this trans should bolt right up. The trans he gave me is rather odd looking as it seems to be the bellhousing and transmission all in one unit. Anyhow, I was wondering how easy it would be to do this swap. Is setting up the linkage for the clutch pedal hard? Also, did these old mercedes' use hydraulic clutches? I am hoping that this swap is indeed possible as it would make my 220d alot easier to drive. Any help or insight is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
