I've noticed older MBs from 1980's with original paint that has held up better then 1990s era cars with clear coats peeling off on the roof and hoods.

My '81 300SD w/ 190,000 miles, dispite many touched up nicks and small dings, still has enough shine on it to look new and is about to get a dose of Maguires for good measure.

What type of paint did they use and what should be requested when repainting ?
It seems clear coat is standard practice at bodyshop these days. (Probably more cost effective.)

Are new MBs using clear coat as well ?

Also, I've seen warnings about not using silicone based waxe/polish if the car is to be repainted later. (Makes the job more difficult ?) Is Maguires one of them ?

Thanks.
