It leaks 1 drop from between engine and torque converter every 30 seconds while engine just started, and leaks less (about one drop every 1 to 2 minutes) after engine reaching operating temperature. I was told by mechanic the left block head gasket needs to be replaced. I was quoted $1700.

I am wondering:

(1) I searched about this topic and found suggestions about re- torque the head bolts. Is this a reasonable first approach? Can anybody recommend a shop/mechanic who is experienced in doing this in California?

(2) The mechanic went through my car stated (1) will not work. What is your opinion? Please?

(3) There is almost no leak while engine is not running. What would be other possible source for leak?
