Wind deflector positions

I'm looking at buying a windscreen for my R129, but have been put off by the *temporary* add-on look of the ones available. Even though they are well crafted and fit nicely on the rollbar, they always look like an afterthought.

From some posts it seems that the deflector has to lean towards the driver/passenger for best effect. But I wonder if it is almost as good at the same angle as the rollbar?

If so, and it still stopped wind, then I could whip up a nice design to fit inside the rollbar and it would look neat and more part of the car.

Has anyone used one closed on the rollbar, with the rollbar up? What's it like at stopping wind in this position?
