floppy visor relief

88 560SL
I have had it with my floppy visor. In addition to not wanting to pay $30 for two new visor clips (the sockets only), I just had the tab on the visor rod disintegrate during removal - and not going to pay $400 for new visor, nevermind 2 of them.
So to settle this problem I have implemented a kluge solution. I obtained 2 visor clips from Ford in the correct color, shaped them with sandpaper and a grinder to fit the profile of the header on the SL, drilled the mounting hole, and attached with the MBZ factory screw. I obtained a foot of hollow 3/8 inch OD aluminum tubeing which is the correct diamater to snap securely into the visor clip an over the existing rod, sawed it into 2 1 inch pieces, painted them pale cream to match the visor, slipped the visor off, removed the bits of the existing visor tab, slid the rod back on - capturing the 1 inch tube in the tab's space when i slid the visor rod back in, anc reattached the visor.
The cheap clips from ford really caputre the visor when snapped into place. no more flopping or popping loose. I'll post pictures soon.
This is one of those times when the engineers / stylists missed my just a bit.
