'86 300E Fuel Selector Valve

Greetings All,

Just a quick question to those that take up to notice such things like our CD-Rom maintenance manual that contains a section on fuel selection that can be rotated to retard the engine to accept fuel of different grades and does include the USA version in it's context. My question is this. Does this valve actually exist on all 300E USA makes or was it an option that had to ordered on these vehicles? The second question is, has anyone found this valve on their vehicle and does it really allow you to burn lower octane fuel in this engine without compromise on engine funtionability?

Thanks for all the input,

Charles
