when in doubt, go with factory approved parts. in the case of power steering fluid, you can't go wrong if you get the OEM mercedes stuff.

it IS different (not exactly sure what makes it so special) and it DOES matter. you don't want to be putting GM power steering fluid into an MB steering pump.

could haveto do with the viscosity, could have to do with the chemical composition and its effect on components within the steering system, could be both.
