On the 126 replacing the shift linkage bushing , (which I just recently did on my car and took care of the metallic shifting), is a piece of cake. I Just followed the always wonderful photos/instructions given by ThomasPin from his site. The job took no time at all.
From the other replies here It seems like the 124 requires a lot more determination and commitment....
