My high school situation was exactly the same. Yes - I was a different ethnic background than most of the school 'cause the majority of students (literally!) were Hispanic.
However, I kept my mouth shut, and other than some smart alecks pushing me while I was trying to read during lunch, I didn't get too much grief, and people even started to tolerate me somewhat around the middle of my junior year...
IMHO there's no place for hazing in schools.
